Description

n8n is an open source workflow automation platform. Prior to versions 1.123.32, 2.17.4, and 2.18.1, the fix for GHSA-f3f2-mcxc-pwjx did not cover the Snowflake node or the legacy MySQL v1 node. Both nodes construct SQL queries by directly interpolating user-controlled table names, column names, and update keys into query strings without identifier escaping, enabling SQL injection against the connected database. This issue has been patched in versions 1.123.32, 2.17.4, and 2.18.1.

Description quoted from the NVD record.

Who is affected

n8n is a tool for linking apps and automating routine tasks. This flaw affects versions before 1.123.32, 2.17.4 and 2.18.1. It sits in two building blocks: the one that connects workflows to Snowflake databases and the older first version of the MySQL database building block. An earlier fix for a similar problem did not cover these two parts. Both build database commands from table names, column names and update keys that users control, without making them safe first. This lets someone slip their own commands into the connected database. This flaw is rated High.

What to do

  1. The person who installed or runs n8n for your organization should handle this. If an IT provider or vendor runs n8n for you, send them this advisory and ask when the update will be done.
  2. Update n8n to version 1.123.32, 2.17.4 or 2.18.1, or a later release, since these versions fix this flaw.
  3. Find out whether any of your workflows use the Snowflake building block or the older MySQL version 1 building block, so you know which connected databases were exposed.
  4. After the update, check that n8n shows the new version number.
